NORFOLK USMC Gym Update

It's official the gym staff (USMC) will depart this week (close of business Thursday) and the gym will be staffed by NAVAIRLANT active duty members. No details on any changes, except that it's evident that all the gear (except stationary weights, bumper plates/platforms, sorinex rack and elliptical/treadmills) has been transferred to Camp Allen (USMC).
The gym will have reduced operating hours (looks like 0600-1400). No other details.

I am transferring to Quantico on friday and wish all of my Norfolk NOB CrossFitters best of luck.

Those hours are absolutely terrible. Why are they so short? 06-14 does not do anything to help out MOST sailors who get off of work at 1515 or later. Will the gym still stay as a functional facility where it's members can execute varied functional movements at high intensity?

DR,
It seems that all the details are TBD and most likely won't be settled until next fiscal year (October).
As for functional gear/areas.....as soon as Navy MWR shows I think everyone should start looking for other facilities. I have a vision of the placed filled with elliptical and treadmills.
Best,
AJ

This sucks dude...A lot of people are going to have a difficult time being able to afford CF gym memberships. I had that feeling as well about MWR turning the place into more of a gym like Q-80. I truly hope it stays the same as it is now. Thanks for the feedback AJ.
